Art In Motion Bus Stop
The blue steel pipes which frame the perimeter of the bus stop are a sculptural interpretation of Kentucky Bluegrass, and doubly serve as the structural support for the metal roof. The steel pipes are cut, painted, and pre-welded to steel plates at both ends, forming four panels which are then delivered to the site and bolted into the concrete slab.
The signage on the interior of the shelter is meant to be a 2D art piece which can be changed easily and may serve as an information spot or calendar for cultural events in the area. The interior is illuminated by recessed LED fixtures attached to the top of the signage, while other LED lights mounted to the steel plates at the top of the perimeter tubes highlight the sculptural nature of the bus stop at night. All power for the shelter is provided by two photovoltaic panels mounted to the roof with a battery backup, and the signage piece located outside the shelter runs on a separate, self-sufficient system.
