2005 AIA Kentucky Design Award Winner

The First Ever LEED certified building in Kentucky

The administration building for Berea College, Lincoln Hall, was undergoing a renovation to its interior when a key load-bearing wall was accidentally removed, causing a collapse of the second and third floors of its central core. EOP was called in for emergency assistance. This unfortunate event led to a renovation of the entire structure.
EOP's approach to the renovation was to turn the collapse into a positive milestone in the building's history – not to simply rebuild the collapsed portion of the building. This was accomplished by leaving the central core open as an atrium and adding a large skylight, thus allowing abundant natural light to flood the entire building.
Lincoln Hall was certified at the LEED™ silver level and became the first LEED™ certified building in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
